Occupy Wall Street Sues NYC Over Confiscated Books
According to various news sources, Occupy Wall Street filed a federal lawsuit recently against the City of New York, claiming $47,000 worth of their books and other OWS property were destroyed after being confiscated by authorities last autumn, when police raided Zuccotti Park.
According to Occupy Wall Street, over 3,000 books were seized from what they had designated as the “People’s Library.” Some of these were subsequently returned but with many damaged and the rest seemingly destroyed, according to Norman Siegel, Occupy Wall Street’s lawyer.
Significantly, the lawsuit calls into question the constitutionality of the raid itself.
